The Harvey Hall Café reopened on Thursday, November 10th after closing during the pandemic in the spring of 2020. There had been plans to reopen the cafe once University Dining could onboard more fulltime and part time staff and that finally happened.
UW-Stout’s dining service director, Justin Krahn said, “They are also working on recruiting more student employees as this has been the most challenging when a department typically has around 400 student employees before the pandemic and only currently just under 200.”
Krahn said that Harvey’s cafe had been stocked and ready for a couple weeks prior to its reopening. “The gathering spaces are a nice added convenience for staff and students,” he said.
Students who had not experienced Harvey Hall Café before were excited to try it out. First-year student Ashton Cole said, “I think what I’m most looking forward to is being able to grab something quick to eat without having to walk to the MSC every time.”
Cole said he has noticed more people using the Harvey Café seating area to study recently.
There are now more food options available for students and faculty to get. Cole said, “I believe the opening of other options will spread the flood of people around campus, allowing us to be safer and quicker.”
This location isn’t the only one students have missed. First-year student Cayanna Erickson said, “I would enjoy having the Jarvis Cafe open especially on my long days in the applied arts building.”
“We want to open Harvey first and then will work on opening Jarvis Hall Express in some capacity,” said Krahn.
The operation hours for Harvey Café are from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
